Fidel Castro: Whoever has faith in the people cannot fear anything!

In his speech of January 6th, 1959, after his triumphal entry into the city of Santa Clara, the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro expressed: We must work for today and for tomorrow, for this generation and for the generations to come! The great future of the country must be laid on firm foundations!

Then, the historical leader of the Revolution added: We will meet again, because this will not be the only time I hope to have the honor of being received by the people of Santa Clara (APPLAUSE), I will come here as many times as I can and you are willing to listen to me or to speak to me (applause). I will not walk with bodyguards, nor I will place cords around me, much less, I will come here whatever happens as many times as necessary and I will meet with the people because that is why I am here (applause). Personal risks will not matter to me at all, because if I can't talk to the people to take care of myself, why then did I become a revolutionary? (APPLAUSE.) And above all because I am convinced that no one here is essential, because the Revolution has so many values, that the enemies of the Revolution can already kill as many revolutionary leaders as they want, that fifty more will appear afterwards (applause).

And, therefore, here what we have to do is to work and to fulfill our duty while we still have energy, while we still have breath and while we still have life. And I will be in constant contact with the people, and I will say and I will repeat that whoever commands in here is the people, and I will say and I will repeat that both the Revolutionary Government and ourselves, will not receive any orders from anyone other than the people (applause).

And this time, compatriots, the sacrifices have not been in vain, as this generation has the honor of making valuable the blood shed not only by the men of this era, but also the blood shed by the previous generations of men, who however, never saw their dreams come true (applause).

Our generation and our people will make the ideals of all the previous generations come true, the ideals of the mambises, whose sacrifices until today had been in vain, because the homeland we had was far from being the homeland they dreamed of.
